Sometimes when I’m working people give me a lot of weird looks. They don’t know where to place me on the gender spectrum. Or have absolutely no clue what my nationality is. WHY DON’T YOU TAKE A PICTURE, IT’LL LAST LONGER, I think.
Then there’s wannabe India know it alls.
They just say “You’re from India aren’t you?” And continue to say mockingly “How do you like this country?”
The hardest part though is when people ask me how long I’ve lived in Colorado and usually try to explain “My whole life.” But, then the dishonesty creeps up as if I have some moral obligations to explain to them my whole life story. Ugh. Worst feeling ever.
But here’s the part of interracial rascism I’m talking about.
There is a Target Mobile team member who works over in electronics who is also from India, who I was working with on Black Friday and I let him into lockup since I had the key, and he said something that I somehow knew was Bengali and I said out of frustration “I don’t speak that!” and stormed out of lockup.
You’re probably thinking that this is just from people’s personal cultural heritage experiences with each other. Well no. See that’s where’d you be wrong. White people do it all the time when they come through my line.
So, opinion time!
After what I just told you, do think there is such thing as interracial rascism?
